Congratulations Veterans Invitational Champions!
 

Congratulations to the Vardar 91 Red Girls Team who won the U-17 Premier Championship at the Veterans Invitational Tournament in Evansville Indiana the weekend of November 10-11. The girls faced Swanner United (Missouri), Mockingbird Valley (Kentucky) and Evansville Elite in the preliminary rounds, before defeating Sirens 91 (Rockford IL) in the finals, 2-0.

Congratulations go out to Coach Bob Ocwieja and the girls for a tremendous performance.

 
 
 

OCTOBER 2007


2007 State Cup Champions

The Vardar U16 Girls defended their title defeating the Michigan Hawks 2-1 in the 2008 Michigan State Cup Championship Game held October 13, 2007 at Founders Park in Farmington, MI. This was the fifth year in a row that the two teams met in the Final and the fourth year that Vardar took the championship crown. The Hawks started the scoring early in the first half but Kayla Mannino of Bloomfield Hills equalized the score before the half ended. Then in the second half, Megan Siebert of Troy received a cross from Mannino to bang the second goal home which was all that was needed by the Vardar squad to take the championship. For her efforts Mannino was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Anna Sieloff was named the Most Valuable Goalkeeper.  
 
 
The 2008 Michigan State Cup Championship culminates a 6-0 tournament for the Vardar girls. In preliminary matches the Vardar girls beat Michigan Gators Blue (3-2), Ann Arbor Arsenal (8-0), CA United (3-0), Michigan Rush Nike (4-0) and Vardar North (3-0).

The Vardar U16 team is comprised of Amanda Anton, Kelsey Breaugh, Kyla Cross, Angela Gerback, Melanie Jonas, Christine Kelly, Kayla Mannino, Courtney McCoy, Niki Read, Megan Siebert, Anna Sieloff, Kacie Steinbrecher, Sara Tweedy, Riley Wood, and Anna Zambricki. The team is coached by Demir Muftari.

AUGUST 2007


U12 Girls win NSR Cup Tournament

The Vardar U12 girls defeated MI Hawks Black to win the NSR Cup tournament held August 11 and 12, 2007 in Saginaw. In their preliminary games they were undefeated vs. Grand Rapids Crew Jrs, Michigan Rush and MI Hawks Red. Congratulations to the girls and Coach Mike Lupenec on a job well done!

 

 

JUNE 2007


U12 Girls  - Undefeated MYSL Premier Division Champs!

Congratulations to the girls on their U-12 MYSL Premier division championship!Their undefeated and untied season featured (44) goals for and only (11) against.

Congratulations go out to Coach Ralph Torre and the girls for a tremendous season.

 

 

U13 Boys  - 2007 State Cup Champions

The Vardar Elite Boys’ Under-13 team from Rochester, Michigan, is the 2007 Michigan State Cup Youth Soccer Champions, defeating Grand Valley Soccer Club 1-0 on Saturday, June 2, in the championship game at Founders Park in Farmington Hills. 

Vardar, ranked tenth nationally in the Under-13 age group, will now represent the State of Michigan at the 2007 Youth Soccer Region II Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, June 22-27.

 

 

MAY 2007


U12 Boys win the Pacesetter Invitational Tournament

Over Memorial Day weekend, the U12 Vardar boys played in the Pacesetter Invitational Tournament in Sylvania, Ohio.  The boys played the NCSL Eagles (1-1), Classic FC Premier (3-0), and Pacesetter Premier (2-1) to win their bracket and advance to the finals.

In the championship game, the Vardar boys defeated Classic FC Premier 2-1.

Thanks to Coach Mike Lupenec and Steve Piotrowski for a great weekend and Congratulations to the U12 Premier Champions!!!

 

 

U10 Girls win the Pacesetter Invitational Tournament

The U10 Vardar Girls traveled to Sylvania, Ohio for the 2007 Pacesetter Invitational Tournament on Memorial Day weekend.  The girls put in strong performances against some good competition including Greater Toledo FC, Pacesetters, and RSSC. The team won 3 of 4 games to advance to the finals.  

The girls won the championship in an exciting final that saw them defeat the Pacesetters 1-0.

Congratulations go out to Coach Josh Back and the girls for a tremendous performance.

 

 

U14 Boys win the Pacesetter Invitational Tournament

On Memorial Day weekend, the U 14 Boys Vardarstars Red played in the Pacesetter Invitational Tournament in Sylvania, Ohio.  The boys won their bracket by beating the ESSL Arsenal (2-1) and the TFA Premiership Pacesetter (4-0).  In the semifinal game, the boys beat the Strongsville Spurs with 2 early goals and strong defense. 

The final game against the GSSC Bobcats went down to the last moments with a 2-1 victory.

 Good job Coach Kevin Argue and Congratulations, boys!

 
 

U15 Muftari Boys Win Pacesetter Invitational

The VardarStars 92 Black U15 Boys captured the championship of the 2007 Pacesetter Invitational on Memorial Day in Sylvania, OH.   Coached by Demir Muftari, the boys won their bracket, by defeating Ann Arbor Arsenal White and Pacesetters, the defending Ohio North State Cup champions. 

In the championship, the team faced Ann Arbor Arsenal Blue in a rematch of a crossover game the day before in which Ann Arbor was victorious, 5-0.

Coach Muftari's team rebounded spectacularly in the championship game, leading the entire way en route to a 3-1 victory.  Congratulations, U15 Muftari boys!

 
 

U11 girls win the Sycamore Elite Invitational

On the weekend of April 28-29, the Vardar Elite 96 Girls traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio for the 2007 Elite Soccer Inviational. After winning their bracket in impressive fashion over WC United of Ohio (5-1), OP Nike of Ohio (7-2) and Bangu Tsunami of Minnesota (5-1), the girls won the championship in an exciting final that saw them defeat the "#4 nationally ranked" GSE Cardinal Premier 96 team from Cincinnati, Ohio 3-2 in penalty kicks.

Congratulations to coach Jennifer Perkins and to the girls on a job well done!

 

 

2007 Boys State Cup Summary - Quarter Final Match-ups

The Vardar Boys placed an impressive ten teams into the quarter-finals. In the 13,14,15, and 17 age groups Vardar has placed two teams into each of the quarters.  The quarters and semis will take place the weekend of May 19,20 in Saginaw.

The Vardar Soccer Club wishes each of the teams the best of luck and invites all club members to come and support the boys as the attempt to reach the state finals.

Midwest Regional League Review - Final Matches

The Midwest Regional League concludes May 20th as teams vie to gain Regional Championship wildcards. Last weekend saw the U15 Boys wrap up their season with two important wins over the Chicago Sockers, 2-0, and the Chicago Wind, 1-0.

These two victories gave the boys the league title and with that a berth at the regional championships which take place in Des Moines Iowa from June 22-27. The U14 boys have concluded their schedule and await the outcome of a final game to be played this week. They currently sit at the top of the table and are in prime position to gain a wildcard spot at regionals.

The U14 Girls completed their schedule with a very strong second half of the season and have earned promotion to the premier divison for the U15 season.   Congratulations to all our teams.

 
 

APRIL 2007


2007 Boys State Cup Summary

The 2007 Boys State Campaign has kicked off and the Vardar Boys have started off well with many important victories. We wish the boys the best of luck as we attempt to advance as many teams as possible to state cup finals day and regionals.

 

 

Midwest Regional League Review

With the MRL being in full swing the weekend saw many Vardar teams participating in some very important games. Vardar boys traveled to Rockford IL and Hebron In, while the girls hosted a weekend in Rochester. 

So far the season has been a very successful one with the most of our teams being firmly in the race to win their divisions and secure a wild card at regionals.


Vardar Alumni Simon Omekanda to play in Sweden

Vardar alumni Simon Omekanda has signed professionally to play in Europe. We are very proud of Simon’s accomplishments and wish him the best of luck with his career.

Two more collegians have bypassed MLS and signed with European clubs.

Penn State's Simon Omekanda, picked by Chicago in the fourth round of the 2007 SuperDraft, signed with Swedish club IF Norrkoping. The two-time All-Big Ten First Team was born in Morocco and spent time in Belgium before moving to Rochester Hills, Mich., where he was the 2002 Mr. Michigan as the state's top prep player.

Ryan Guy, who starred at San Diego, was taken by FC Dallas in the second round of MLS's SuperDraft but signed with Ireland's St Patrick's Athletic after tryouts in England with Crystal Palace and Germany with Hannover. He scored eight goals for the Toreros in 2006.

MARCH 2007


U14 Girls PRF Champions

The VardarStars 93 Red U14 Girls captured the championship of the 2007 PRF United Cup in Cincinnati on March 24-25. 

Coached by Demir Muftari, the girls won their bracket, which included the Cincinnati Football Academy, NK United, and DSC of Wisconsin. 

 

 
In the finals, the girls defeated DSA Premier, 1-0 in a hard-fought match.   Due to several last-minute injuries and illnesses, the girls competed in the tournament with only 12 active players.   Way to go, girls!! 
 

Vardarstars West Victorious in Middletown

The Vardarstars West U-14 boys opened their Spring Season by winning the Middletown Spring Blast Tournament just outside Cincinnati this past weekend. 

They prevailed Saturday by beating CUSA 92 1-0 and Ohio Elite 2-1.  Their 3rd match against SCSA ended in a 1-1 draw which was enough to earn a spot to play Worthington United in the final. 

 

 
It was a defensive match with few scoring opportunities until VS West finally netted a goal late in the first half.  With one minute left in the match, they struck again to make it a 2-0 victory!  Great effort boys!!!
 

2007 Javanon Cup Champions

The U13 Vardar Girls traveled to Louisville Kentucky for the 2007 Javanon Cup March 17-18.  The Girls won the championship in an exciting final that saw them defeat the Cincinnati Classics Hammer 2-1 in penalty kicks.

 

 
The girls had won their bracket which included; Lakota, Greater Toledo, and Carmel United. In the final Monika Lee, Alleina Szydlowski, Rachel Van Poppelen, and Dayna Stevens all made their penalties while Jenna Underwood stopped two of 4 attempts. The girl travel next to Brentwood Tennessee in April for the Adidas Showcase.
 

U15 Girls attend National Camp/Europe Tour

Three Vardar U15 girls have been selected to represent Region II at the USYS National Training Camp at the University of Pacific in Stockton, CA.  Kayla Mannino, Nicole Read, and Megan Siebert, all members of Demir Muftari's U15 team will attend the national camp Feb. 16-21.

These same three girls and a fourth teammate, Anna Sieloff, will then be heading to Europe for a Region II International Tour March 15-24.  The girls will play with their Region II teammates against other U15 teams from England and France.  While in England the Region II team will have an opportunity to visit the Windsor castle, do additional sightseeing in London and watch a professional soccer match.  Several of their games will be played at the David Beckham Academy in Greenwich.   The tour then has the team head to Paris where they will play a friendly at the National French Football Centre in Clairefontaine.  The group is also expected to visit the Louvre, Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower.

 

 

 

 

Vardar Winter Leagues come to a close

The arrival of March saw the conclusion of two Vardar Winter Leagues that took place at Shelby Soccer City. The Vardar Friday night league concluded for the U12 boys, U13 Girls, and the U13 boys red.  Each of these teams played each other in very competitive games and also had the opportunity to invite teams from outside the club to develop a competitive schedule.  A Vardar skills contest  took place mid-schedule and saw three very talented players win from their perspective teams; Brittany Tenis from u13 girls, Miguel Polley from the u12 boys, and Lawrence Paterson from the u13 boys.

The older boys teams competed in a Saturday afternoon league that brought together the U14 a team, the top two u15 Boys teams and the top two u16 teams. Outside competition was also brought in to complete a competitive and challenging schedule.

All the Vardar teams have worked hard throughout the winter and are very excited and prepared for the beginning of the spring season. 

 

 

 

Vardar Super Y-Leage ODP Selections

Several Vardar players attended the recent Super Y-League ODP National Camps with five being named to the Super Y-League Select Teams. The National ODP events were well attended by U.S. National Team Staff, college coaches, and the Super Y-League ODP staff scouting system.  Rubin Bega, Andre Bezerra, Nick Prys, Reed Losee, and Nicole Read were all named to the Select Teams.

Vardar Girls attend Ohio Indoor College Showcase

On February 19th a group of 15 Vardar players, from three teams within the club,   traveled to Cincinnati to participate in the Ohio Buckeye Indoor Showcase.  The one day event was a tremendous opportunity for the girls to showcase their skills in front of collection of Colleges that span the Midwest.

A large group of coaches, over sixty in total, watched the Vardar girls play the Cleveland Internationals and Cincinnati United Premier.   This showcase concludes a very successful season that began in July for the older Vardar Girls, and saw the girls travel throughout the country attending and hosting college showcases. We wish all our high school age girls well in their upcoming high school season and we look forward to their return in June.

 

 

 

Vardar Boys Ranked 9th in Nation

Soccer America released their annual Best Youth Clubs 2007 edition and the Vardar Boys were ranked 9th in the nation. Soccer America, a widely respected soccer publication, annually ranks all the youth soccer clubs in the nation and the Vardar boys find themselves alongside the best clubs in the country.

We wish to congratulate all the young men and women that have made the Vardar Soccer Club one of the elite soccer clubs in the nation. We would also like to thank our staff for their hard work and commitment.

Vardar Girls College Combine

The Vardar Girls took to the field Sunday January 28th in front of some of the Midwest’s finest college soccer programs. Vardar freshman, sophomores, and juniors had the opportunity to display their skills as ten colleges looked on.

The girls were pooled together and put in an environment where coaches could get a quality evaluation of their talents. The event was a success and was well received by the coaches in attendance. We are very proud of the quality of the players in our Girls Program and are proud to showcase them in this annual event that can be a critical tool in the recruitment process for our Vardar Girls.

We would like to congratulate the girls on a excellent morning of soccer and we would also like to thank the coaches that attended the event and we look forward to seeing you next year.

Norman and Omekanda selected in MLS Draft

The Vardar Soccer Club would like to congratulate longtime Vardar players Nate Norman and Simon Omekanda on being selected in the MLS draft.

Norman, a Notre Dame standout, was selected 21st overall while Omekanda, a Penn State standout, was selected 47th overall.  Both young men were selected by the Chicago Fire.

 

We wish both of these fine young men the best of luck as the launch their careers as professional soccer players.

          

 

2007 MLS DRAFT RESULTS

 

U16 Girls have successful trip to the Orange Classic

The Vardar U16 girls participated in the 2006 Orange Classic tournament in Ft. Lauderdale between the 27th and the 30th of January. The girls had a very successful tournament as they advanced to the final before losing 2-1 in a very close contest to Team Boca.

In pool play the girls defeated NASA Premier, tied Dallas Texans, and Defeated Westside United Fury 2-1 to top the group. In the semi-final the 16s defeated the Weston Fury 1-0 to advance to the final.
 

 
This prestigious event caps off a successful season which saw the girls win the Midwest Regional League 1st Division and gain promotion to the U17 Premier Division. We congratulate all the girls on a job well done and wish them luck in their upcoming high school season.
